Jammu, Dec 24: The Central University of Jammu (CUJ) celebrated the birthdays of former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the great educationist of the country Madan Mohan Malviya, which fall on the 25th of December, as the Good Governance Day.
A series of events including screening of a film on the life of Madan Mohan Malviya (whom) Mahatma Gandhi equated with the clean flowing water of sacred Ganga, a lecture “Fostering Good Governance to Fight Corruption: The Indian Experience” by Prof Y Parthasardhi, Head Department of Public Policy and Public Administration, CUJ, and a Kavi Darbar were organized.
Speaking as the chief guest, the CUJ Vice-Chancellor Prof Devanand threw light on the lives of two distinguished personalities of the country. He described Mr Vajpayee as one of the most competent and efficient Prime Ministers of the country. About Madan Mohan Malviya, Prof Devanand said that he was a legendary educationist and a founder of good governance, indeed.
During the Kavi Darbar, poems on the themes of brutal killing of children in Peshawar Pakistan, female foeticide, corruption and patriotism, were recited. The eminent poets, who participated, included Dr Raj Kumar, former HoD Hindi, Jammu University, Dr Adarsh, Dr Neerja Puri, Amita Mehta, Neeru Sharma, Ishpal Singh, Randhir Singh Raipuria, Kewal Kumar Kewal, Krishan Kumar and the school children from Heritage Public School, Jodhamal Public School, Shiksha Niketan, and Tawish college.
The Deans of various schools, Heads of the Departments, Faculty, and Officers of the University including Senior Consultant Dr P S Pathania, Consultant V K Gupta, OSD (Finance) H K Prashar, Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Staff and Students of the University were present at the function.
The entire programme was organized by Prof N R Sharma, Dean Student’s welfare. The formal vote of thanks was extended by Dr J N Baliya.
