Central Silk Board holds Technical Upgradation Program

JAMMU, Mar 2: Technical Service Center, CSTRI, Central Silk Board, Miran Sahib Jammu organized a one day Technical Upgradation Program entitled Recent Advances in Mulberry Silk Technology and Schemes Schemes here today for reelers and weavers in coordination with Handicrafts and Handloom, Department Jammu.
N. S. Gahlot, Scientist-D STSC Jammu read the welcomed address. The Programme was inaugurated by Baldev Singh Baloria, Deputy Mayor, Jammu who was the chief guest. Dr. Vikas Gupta, Director, Handicraft and Handloom, Jammu Division, Ashwani Kumar Sharma,, Additional Director, Silk Development Department, N. S. Gahlot Scientist and Zonal officer, Central Silk Board, Jammu and other dignitaries graced the occasion. The Deputy Mayor visited to the stalls of silk products on the occasion.
N. S. Gahlot Scientist, Silk Technical Service Center, Meera Sahib, while addressing the participants, said that “We are constantly trying to make India self -sufficient in silk production. There has been a lot of improvement in silk cocoon quality and yarn. Now our focus is to develop value added products by connecting the silk industry with handloom weavers and artisans”.
Dr. Vikas Gupta, Director, Handicraft and Handloom, Jammu Division said that in the last two years, about 4000 people have been trained. In ten districts of Jammu Division, there are about 150 hanndicrafts training centers and 50 handloom centers are being run for rural masses.
Baldev Singh, Billawaria Deputy Mayor, Jammu, appreciated the efforts of Silk Technical Service Center, Central Silk Board Jammu and emphasized on various schemes of Central Government, for beneficiaries. He said that it is a good initiative for development of silk farmers and artisans.
Sonika Parihar, Assistant Director, Handicraft and Handloom, Jammu showed all the handicrafts products produced by the local women group.
Officers from Handicraft and Handloom, Shavi Deputy Director, Training incharge H&H, Joint Director, Satish Thaploo, Project Officer, Jammu and Kashmir Industries, and his team, Santosh Kumar, Scientist of Central Silk Board, Pawan Kumar Sharma and BD Maandi, Jagdish Raj, Dr. Wali Professor of SKUAST Sericulture Department were present.
