CEC visits Changthang to assess ground reality

LEH, Feb 22: Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Rigzin Spalbar conducted tour of various areas of Changthang region to assess the rescue and relief work initiated in the wake of recent heavy snowfall.
Accompanied by Executive Councilor for Sheep and Animal Husbandry Gurmet Dorjay and district officers, the CEC visited Phorbrang, Spangmik, Maan-Meerak and Chushul and was apprised of extent of damages.
At Maan, he was apprised of the CAPD storekeeper’s absence during the past two months as a result of which people were not getting ration and kerosene oil.
Taking serious note of this, CEC instructed the Assistant Director CA&PD to take strict disciplinary action against the erring storekeeper Sana-Ullah by keeping his salary withheld. Replying to the demands of Meerak village, CEC assured to lay transmission line of solar power besides sorting out common road problems of Maan-Meerak and Chushul.
Responding to the demands of Chushul residents which included opening of bank branch, completion of ice hockey rink and residential school, CEC assured to take necessary steps in this regard and said that Council will put every effort to open Chushul circuit for tourist.
On his way back to Leh, Mr Spalbar visited Barma and Sato-Kargyam villages to take stock of the people’s problems. The villagers demanded early  improvement of Sato-Kargyam road, completion of culverts, early commissioning of incomplete solar lighting plant and installation of mobile tower in Kargyam valley.
Terming the demand of mobile tower as genuine, the CEC assured that Council would put all efforts to get tower installed for linking the area with the rest of the world. He said that Council was putting all out efforts to open Sato-Karyam area for tourists that would boost the economic condition of the people.
Tomorrow, the CEC will conduct extensive tour of Nyoma block where the snow crisis was comparatively severe with huge mortality of livestock and animal starvation in the wake of covering of pastures under the thick layer of snow.
