LEH, Sept 7: A high-level delegation from Ladakh comprising Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Ladakh BJP State president, Tashi Gyaltson Khachu, and State general secretary, Kunzang Namgyal, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
The delegation held an extensive discussion on issues of immediate concern to Ladakh, particularly the impact of the recent unprecedented heavy rainfall. They urged the Centre to provide special financial support for restoration of damaged infrastructure, compensation for crop losses, and measures to address food and fodder shortages triggered by the calamity.
Highlighting developments in public welfare, the representatives said the recently concluded recruitment drive, conducted exclusively for Ladakh, has fulfilled a long-standing demand of the region’s youth. They noted that the recruitment process, enabled through Ladakh’s unique domicile provisions, ensures greater employment opportunities for local candidates in Government services within the Union Territory.
The delegation also underscored the significance of recent GST reforms, stating that the measures will simplify the tax regime while contributing to sustained economic growth at the national level.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured the delegation that the concerns raised would be taken into consideration and reiterated the Central Government’s commitment to advancing the welfare and development of Ladakh.
