CEC inaugurates Sumdha-Choon road in Leh

LEH, Dec 9:  The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh in a significant development connected Sumdha-Choon with all weather road which is one of the remote villages of  Leh district in the Skyu-Markha constituency of Hill Council, Leh.
The Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo  inaugurated the road  today   in presence of  Executive Councilor for Rural and Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, Councillor Skyu-Markha Sonam Norboo, ACD Leh Tsering Paldan, Executive Engineer  REW, district and block level engineers and officers and villagers of Sumdha-Choon area.
Initiated by Councilor, Sonam Norboo on  the direction of CEC and EC Rural, the 3.16 Km road worth Rs 1.50 crore was constructed by Rural Development  Department in record time of about one and a half month. Completion of  this vital road will not only prove beneficial for village in every respect but Sumdha-Choon being a famous pilgrimage destination in the Himalayan region known for  its monastery will also get major boost in the tourism sector. Founded by a Tibetan Buddhist translator of 10-11th century Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo, the principal image of  Sumdha-Choon Gonpa is the four headed Varocana, which is the control figure of the five Dhyani Buddhas similar to the images of Alchi and Mangyu monastery.
Addressing the gathering, CEC  and  EC Rural  congratulated the people of Sumdha-Choon for the completion of this road at their village which was the main and long pending demand of the village since decades.  They lauded the efforts of  contractor  and concerned engineers for completing this road in record time. Dr  Dawa said that with the collective efforts and positive intention of every one that this dream came true  as  earlier it was beyond the imagination of any one that this road will come-up in such a record time.
For extension of road from Sumdha -Choon  to Sumdha-Chanmo, Dr Dawa directed ACD, Leh to do the survey work at the earliest and said that Council intends to connect Sumdha -Chanmo under CRF for which about Rs 10 crore was already proposed and road from Sumdha-Choon to Chanmo will be taken under NABARD so that a circular road could be completed in coming years.
In the morning, CEC inspected the progress on  Tsachuthang bridge being launched over Zanskar River and directed  Xen to use winter months very judicious so that this vital bridge connecting Skyu-Markha valley could be completed in next working season.
