CEC inaugurates LTO’s weekend theater

LEH, June 5: LAHDC CEC Dr Sonam Dawa in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramaswamy G inaugurated the Ladakh Theatre Organization’s weekend theater in Culture Academy Lotsava Auditorium Hall here.
The weekend theater started with dual purpose to revive and promote the theater besides aimed at attracting maximum tourists by showcasing the historical drama to visiting dignitaries. During the inaugural session, famous play “Nangsa Odbum” was shown to the audience.
The play teaches us to develop compassion, wisdom and tolerance thus giving us strength to live peacefully, in this world filled with never ending illusion of materialistic lust.  The story “Nangsa Otbum” is a Jataka Katha adapted in the traditional style of Ladakhi performing art.
Congratulating the LTO for reviving the theatre in Ladakh, CEC said that theater teaches us to develop love, compassion and generosity thereby providing moral education to students which is very much needed to groom them into responsible citizen.
Mentioning about “Nangsa Odbum” and famous “Temet Kuldan” plays exhibiting generosity among Ladakhis, Dr Dawa stressed upon reviving the art and announced Hill Council financial assistance of Rs one lakh to promote the theatre.
Appreciating the artists for exhibiting excellent play, Deputy Commissioner said that without understanding the language the emotion depicted by artists in the play makes an impact on all audience.
Earlier, giving a brief note on theater which helps to develops ten science of knowledge (Rignas-Chu) in very individual, NSD alumni Sangeet Natak Academy Awardee Mipham Otsal said that the theme of play teaches us to have patience and tolerance which is very important to be successful in life.
Three sponsors of the play which includes Tsering Angchok of Riwang Trek, Tsering Namgyal of Wind Horse Tours and Gurmet Dorjay of Nomadic Tours were felicitated with Khataks for sponsoring the play.
