CEC inaugurates J&K Electoral Display at Global Exhibition

New Delhi, Jan 16: Chief Election Commissioner Dr Nasim Zaidi accompanied by Election Commissioner O P Rawat, Dy Election Commissioner Umesh Rawat inaugurated the Exhibition-cum-Cultural Display centre of Jammu and Kashmir established as a part of Global Electoral Exhibition and Matdata Mahotsav organised by the Election Commission of India at New Delhi. CEO J&K Shantmanu was also present on the occasion.
Chief Electoral Officer J&K Shantmanu, District Election Officer, Udhampur (Nodal Officer) Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Project Officer DRDA Dr Jagdish Mehra, Dy Chief Electoral Officer Rishpal Singh and a team of officials fromSstate established the display and briefed the
Chief Election Commis-sioner about the innovative practices of electoral participation in state, success stories and interventions at various levels.
The Display Center exhibited the rich cultural traditions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region; several live models on electoral participation, practices and innovations; electoral photo exhibition, and a series of short films on Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections of 2014. A presentation of success stories of electoral participation SVEEP campaign Jashn-e-Jamhuriat
has also been displayed by the Election Commission as a marvel success story in India.
Dr Nasim Zaidi also launched a documentation presented by the Chief Electoral Officer J&K. The documentation of success story was formulated by District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Udhampur and Project Officer DRDA Dr Jagdish Mehra under supervision of CEO Shantmanu. A set of films on systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation were also launched on the occasion.
Rich cultural presentations were made by Romalo Ram and Group of Ramnagar and Natrang Theatre Group from Jammu on electoral awareness and participation. A live painting display was also organised on the sidelines of display centre.
CEO Shantmanu presided over the proceedings at the cultural event. Thousands of guests participated in the programme and attended the series of cultural programmes and video films presented by the J&K team at the Central Park, Connaught Place.
The week long Global Exhibition and Matdaan Mahaotsav has participation from all the states and more than a dozen countries on various themes of electoral participation and innovations in strengthening the democracy. The programme will culminate on January 18. It has been organised as a part of Global Celebrations on democracy with assistance of United Nations Development Progra-mme.
