LEH, Sept 5: Chief Executive Counicllor, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal who also holds the Power sector convened a meeting of NHPC Engineers headed by Executive Director (ED) NHPC Abhay Kumar Singh at Council Secretariat today to discuss the upcoming plans and projects of the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in Ladakh.
ED NHPC apprised the meeting that MNRE has already allotted different states to CPSUs for development of Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects. He said NHPC has been tasked to develop solar projects in both J&K and Ladakh. He further added that MNRE lead by Minister Anand Kumar is keen to speed-up solar power projects in Ladakh on priority.
The meeting also discussed about 50 MW Solar Power Project at Phey Thang which is already allotted to Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. ( SECI).
ED NHPC requested LAHDC, Leh to provide land for development of solar power projects in Leh district and said that NHPC is ready to develop mini, medium and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects in Ladakh and urged Hill Council Leh to complete land allotting procedures and proposals of Council at the earliest so that NHPC could take few solar projects in hand at the earliest time possible. He further added that number of CSR schemes will automatically go along with solar projects when implemented.
The CEC assured all possible support from Council in development of solar power projects in Leh and hoped that UT Ladakh will touch new heights in generation of solar energy in the near future. Meanwhile, CEC also highlighted various power-related issues and problems of Leh especially during winter months, and pending projects under PMDP and RGGVY being implemented by NHPC in Leh since many years.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor for Agriculture Phuntsog Stanzin, Executive Counicllor for Minorities Mumtaz Hussain, Executive Councillor for Education Konchok Stanzin, former MLC Chering Dorjey, MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Executive Engineer PDD, Tsewang Paljor, Executive Engineer STD Tundup Spalazng and other concerned engineers.
