CCI resents shifting of bus stand

JAMMU, May 3: A meeting of different Bazar Associations and senior members of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu was held today at Chamber house under the chairmanship of Y.V. Sharma, its president to discuss the problem arisen due to the potential shifting of the buses coming from Srinagar and Katra from Nagrota – Bye Pass to Nagrota.
The members of the different Associations present in the meeting were of the unanimous view that the present Bus Stand should be made a terminal point and the idle parking should be shifted to the areas the Government has developed at various places around the city.
The Chamber pointed out that by shifting the present Bus Stand to somewhere in Narwal will not only create problem for the general public, pilgrims and the tourists but will tell heavily on the economy of the city. The member were of the unanimous view that they should meet the Divisional Commissioner and apprise him about the difficulties which the business community and the general public is going to face due to shifting of the General Bus Stand.
Y.V. Sharma, while speaking on the occasion said that during the visit of Ghulam Nabi Azad, when he was the Chief Minister and Tara Chand, Deputy Chief Minister and recently by Nawang Rigzin Jora Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies it was assured the stakeholders that the General Bus Stand will not be shifted from the present place and this will remain a terminal point from where the passengers will be lifted and dropped.
Later, the deputation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry alongwith the members present in the meeting called on the Divisional Commissioner and brought into his notice the difficulties and problems likely to be faced by the business community in particular and public and tourists in general by shifting the present Bus Stand.
The members said that if the ISBT is shifted from the present place the Jammu people will have no other option but to come on roads.
The Divisional Commissioner gave patient hearing to the suggestions made during discussions and assured that matter will be taken up with the higher authorities. Prominent among others present in the meeting include Sham Lal Langer, Anil Gupta, Arun Gupta, Deepak Aggarwal, Kuldeep Wahi, Inderjit Khajuria, Ravi Mahajan, Baldev Khullar and Vijay Gupta.
