JAMMU, June 19: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Jammu is all set to get new president and other office bearers as scheduled elections of the apex business body are going to be held on June 21.
There would be straight contest for all the six positions, excluding the post of secretary general for which a triangular contest among Arun Gupta, Manish Gupta and Anil Gupta is on the card.
Rakesh Gupta, who had lost twice to outgoing president Y V Sharma in the last two successive elections, has locked horns with Parveen Kumar Gupta for the post of president. Parveen Gupta has earlier served as senior vice-president, junior vice-president and treasurer of the CCI.
Pertinent to mention that the outgoing president Y V Sharma is not contesting the elections this time owing to personal reasons.
For the post of senior vice-president, Sham Lal Langer and Surinder Mahajan are in fray while Bharat Bhushan Gupta and Deepak Aggarwal are contesting for the post of junior vice-president. Similarly, Rahul Mahajan and Rajesh Gupta are in straight contest for the post of secretary.
Even as there are three candidates in fray for the post of treasurer, there is a straight contest between Ashu Gupta and Rakesh Jandial for the position as the third contestant Narinder Gupta has announced to stay away from the race in support of former after last date for withdrawal of nominations.
According to Prithvi Raj Gupta, the election president for CCI elections, there are 2138 registered members, who would cast their vote for the election of new president and other office bearers. After Annual General Body Meeting of the CCI at 9 a m on Saturday, voting will be followed till 5 p m while counting of votes will be done after 6 p m  for declaration of results on the same evening, he added.
Maintaining that  elaborate arrangements have been done for free,  fair and transparent elections, Prithvi Raj Gupta further informed that 40 polling officers and  polling observes have been appointed for  successful conduct of the elections.  Besides, he added, there will be some senior members of the CCI as special invitees to monitor the election.
As only a day is left for the elections, all the contesting candidates are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters by approaching them personally notwithstanding the scorching heat.
Arun Gupta, who had won as secretary general in last elections by securing more than 1100 votes, is confident of getting re-elected for the same post owing to his sincere efforts for redressal of the genuine issues of business community. During our two-year tenure, we succeeded in getting Central Excise exemption and VAT remission to industry extended besides other achievements, he said adding that his mission as CCI secretary general, if re-elected, would be to ensure growth of Jammu as tourist hub and address the  business community grievances like inadequate power supply.
Rakesh Gupta is hopeful that the members would give him an opportunity this time to head the prestigious business body for effectively serving the community and addressing their long pending issues.
Similarly, the other contestants are also confident of securing support of the majority members and emerge victorious to serve the business community.
