Even as there are three candidates in fray for the post of treasurer, there is a straight contest between Ashu Gupta and Rakesh Jandial for the position as the third contestant Narinder Gupta has announced to stay away from the race in support of former after last date for withdrawal of nominations.
According to Prithvi Raj Gupta, the election president for CCI elections, there are 2138 registered members, who would cast their vote for the election of new president and other office bearers. Besides, he added, there will be some senior members of the CCI as special invitees to monitor the election.
As only a day is left for the elections, all the contesting candidates are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters by approaching them personally notwithstanding the scorching heat.
Arun Gupta, who had won as secretary general in last elections by securing more than 1100 votes, is confident of getting re-elected for the same post owing to his sincere efforts for redressal of the genuine issues of business community. During our two-year tenure, we succeeded in getting Central Excise exemption and VAT remission to industry extended besides other achievements, he said adding that his mission as CCI secretary general, if re-elected, would be to ensure growth of Jammu as tourist hub and address the business community grievances like inadequate power supply.
Rakesh Gupta is hopeful that the members would give him an opportunity this time to head the prestigious business body for effectively serving the community and addressing their long pending issues.
Similarly, the other contestants are also confident of securing support of the majority members and emerge victorious to serve the business community.
