JAMMU, Sept 24:  A delegation of Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCI) Jammu met the Dy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and apprised him of the problems being faced by the business community and economic situation in the region.
Led by Sham Lal Langer, senior vice president and assisted by secretary general Arun Gupta and and vice president Deepak Aggarwal, the members discussed  the issues pertaining to business community of Jammu region with the Dy Chief Minister. They also referred to the issues related to economic situation of Jammu province and its future impact after maximum number of trains  are being  extended up to Katra. This will cause huge economic loss to the business community of Jammu including transporters and hoteliers.
Mr Langer  requested the Dy  Chief Minister to expedite the work on the already sanctioned projects like Gandola, artificial lake and Mubarak Mandi heritage complex and multi storey parking etc.  It was also impressed upon Dr Singh  to take initiatives to identify new tourist circuit so that the pilgrims and the tourists visiting the State are attracted to stay at various places of Jammu province to help the economy of Jammu to become strong.
The delegation also apprised the Dy  Chief Minister to take up the matter of promotion of border tourism at Suchetgarh for which the necessary infrastructure already exists and the Defence Ministry should be persuaded to start the Parade ceremony at Suchetgarh on the pattern of Wagah border in Amritsar.
Arun Gupta secretary general pointed out that the Jammu Railway station be modernized and sufficient number of  additional platforms be got sanctioned for Jammu railway station as in absence of these no new trains could be sanctioned for Jammu nor there is any space available to halt at Jammu Railway Station.  It was also pointed out that in the past Jammu Railway Station has been declared as a Railway Division but no further steps have been taken in this regard.
The DyCM was also apprised of  the 5-6 hours long unscheduled power cuts in these hot and humid days. He was also requested to initiate steps for changing the land use of the residential areas where commercial activities have already come up due to paucity of sufficient commercial space which include Apsara Road Gandhi Nagar, Channi Himmat, Trikuta Nagar etc.
The delegation also referred to the scarcity of parking space in Jammu and requested to take urgent steps for remodeling of Bus Stand with multi-storied parking besides  the parking slots at Kachi Chawni, Super Bazar etc.
Chamber delegation also expressed concern and resented the manner in which the Commercial  Tax Department conducted surveys in different bazaars due to which the entire business community of Jammu province feel disturbed.
The DyCM assured the delegation that all possible steps shall be taken to mitigate the problems and the concerned authorities have been instructed  to speed up the works on different projects and the artificial lake will be ready by March 2016 and the other projects like Gandola and Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex will also be completed  at the earliest.
