CBI registers case against 2 railway officials, editor

NEW DELHI, May 4:
CBI has registered a case against two senior officials of North Eastern Railway (NER) and an editor of a Mumbai-based small magazine for their alleged involvement in bribery case in granting contract worth Rs 58 crore for construction of three over-bridges in Bihar.
The agency has registered the case against a Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Engineer (construction) of NER, six private persons including the editor.
“It was alleged that the private contractors in conspiracy with others had paid certain illegal gratification to senior railway officials in order to manage contract worth around Rs 58 crores relating to construction of three rail over-bridges between Maharajganj and Mashrakh in NER zone in Bihar,” CBI spokesperson said here today.
It is alleged that the editor was using his influence with the senior railway officials to help the contractor in clinching the deal.
The CBI recently carried out searches at 12 different places, including the residence and office premises of the railway officials and other accused at Gorakhpur (UP), Chhapra (Bihar) and Mumbai, he said.
During searches, huge cash, jewellery, bank accounts, fixed deposits, documents of properties and other incriminating documents were recovered, he added.
Certain documents allegedly relating to transfers and posting of railway officers and award of contracts were also recovered during searches at the premises of a private person, the spokesperson said. (PTI)
