CBI raids at 14 places including houses of JKAS officer, ex Minister’s kin, female cop

Former SSB Member, SO among 20 booked in FAAs paper leak
*Conspiracy among officials, MeritTrac, candidates

JAMMU, Nov 30: The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) today conducted simultaneous raids at 14 places in Jammu and Samba districts after registration of First Information Report (FIR) against 20 persons including one JKAS officer and a Section Officer, earlier posted in Services Selection Board, kin of a former Minister, a female police constable and another kin of an ASI of Jammu and Kashmir Police, in connection with paper leakage of Financial Accounts Assistants (FAAs).

Though no arrests have been made immediately, the officials don’t rule out arrests of the accused for questioning in the coming days. In Sub Inspectors of Jammu and Kashmir Police paper leak scam, the CBI have arrested 20 persons including a Commanding Officer (CO) of the BSF, who has also been named in the FIR registered today in FAAs paper leak.
Noted persons, whose houses were searched today by the CBI, include Neelam Khajuria, JKAS, then member of the SSB, Mukta Devi daughter of Rajinder Prasad and wife of Dusandi Sharma, a police constable, resident of Ward No. 7 Pargwal, Avinash Sharma son of Romesh Chander Sharma and kin of former Minister , a resident of Maira Mandrian, Akhnoor and Vandana Sharma wife of Ravi Kumar and daughter of JKP ASI Ashok Sharma R/o Amit Nagar Muthi. ASI Ashok Kumar and his son Jaisurya are also named in JKP Sub Inspectors paper leak scam and have already been arrested.
Anju Raina, then Section Officer, SSB along with unknown officials of the Board has also been named in the FIR but their premises were not searched today, the officials said.
Dr Karnail Singh, then Medical Officer and CO BSF Frontier Headquarters, Paloura, who was arrested in SI paper leak, has also been named as accused in the present FIR.
Other persons, whose houses were searched by the CBI sleuths today in FAAs paper leak case, include Laxmi Sharma daughter of Yashpal Sharma and wife of Kuldeep Raj, a resident of Ward No. 6 Thandi Choi, Sahar Jammu, Mukesh Kumar son of Subash Chander R/o Kali Bari Dhok Khalsa in Bhalwal Brahamana, Jourian, Manish Kumar daughter of Vijay Kumar of Ward No. 1 Kashmiri Mohalla, Akhnoor, Gurjeet Kour wife of Saroop Singh, a resident of Ward No. 1 Khanpur, Ramgarh in Samba district, presently putting up at Kunjwani, Vandana Choudhary wife of Ashwani Kumar of Sai Khurd, Suchetgarh, Rajinder Makhnotra son of Jagdish Raj, a resident of Shahpur, Bishnah, Gurpreet Singh son of Surjeet Singh of Karan Bagh, Kulvinder Singh son of Rajinder Singh R/o Vikram Nagar, Gadigarh and Harpal Singh son of Amreek Singh of Karan Bagh.
Accused, who have been named in the FAAs paper leak FIR but whose houses were not searched today, include Dr Karnail Singh, CO BSF, Ashwani Kumar, Roshan Bral, ReT teacher, Anju Raina and Shubam Patyar.
M/s MeritTrac Services Private Limited Bengaluru, an agency hired by the SSB earlier for conducting examinations, has again been named in the FIR.
As per the officials, 20 persons have been named in the FAAs paper leak FIR but houses of 13 accused were searched today. Two houses of Gurjeet Kour were raided at Ramgarh and Kunjwani, making it a total of 14 locations that were searched.
Number of documents and some gadgets have been seized during day-long searches which concluded this evening.
The officials said there were allegations regarding malpractices in the examination and Government of Jammu and Kashmir constituted an Inquiry Committee to look into them.
“Report of the Committee revealed alleged conspiracy amongst officials of JKSSB, private company based at Bengaluru (M/s MeritTrac), beneficiary candidates and others causing gross irregularities in conduct of the Financial Assistants Accounts examination,” the officials said.
Certain allegations include high percentage of selected candidates from the districts of Jammu, Kathua and Reasi; leakage of question paper, violation of rules by JKSSB in assigning the task of setting question paper to the Bengaluru based private company and forgery etc.
There have been reports that question papers of Sub Inspectors in Jammu and Kashmir Police and FAAs among others were leaked by the racketeers from the printing press in New Delhi with the involvement of many stakeholders and sold to candidates for amount running into lakhs. Racketeers from New Delhi and Haryana were also involved in the scam besides Jammu.
Some officials then posted in the SSB and agency hired for conducting the exam are also under scanner.
The CBI have registered an FIR in this connection at Jammu and more raids and arrests are not ruled out.
