CBI arrests Patwari taking graft

UDHAMPUR, Apr 27: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Jammu has arrested a Revenue official for accepting a bribe amount of Rs 40000.
Surinder Kumar, Patwari Sudh Mahadev, tehsil Chenani, district Udhampur, has been arrested for demanding bribe in lieu of issuance of fard through online portal, a CBI official said.
According to him, the accused deliberately rejected two applications of the complainant for issuance of the revenue document without any valid reason.
Worried, when the complainant met with the patwari, the latter demanded a bribe of Rs 50000, he said.

“On this, the complaint was verified discreetly to find out that the accused official actually demanded Rs 50000 and later agreed to issue the revenue document (fard) in lieu of Rs 40000,” the CBI official said.
Accordingly, he said, a trap was laid on April 26, 2025 in the presence of independent witnesses and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 40000 from the complainant.
Subsequently, he was arrested and a search was carried out at his residential premises, he said.
Later, the accused was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI cases) Jammu today and the court remanded the accused to judicial custody for 14 days, added the CBI official.
