New Delhi, Sep 25: The CBI has arrested an Income Tax officer from Odisha’s Khordha while allegedly receiving Rs 5 lakh bribe from a jeweller, officials said Sunday.
Suman Kumar Sahu, posted in Khordha, had allegedly demanded Rs 30 lakh from the jeweller for not conducting the survey of his shop and had also threatened that he would raid his establishment in case the bribe was not paid, the probe agency said.
After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept the bribe in two installments, the Central Bureau of Investigation said.
“The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while demanding & accepting bribe of Rs 5 lakh as first installment from the Complainant.
“Searches were conducted at the premises of accused which led to recovery of certain property documents,” a CBI spokesperson said. (PTI)
