CBI arrests 2 Superintendents, 3 Inspectors in an alleged bribery case

NEW DELHI, June 14:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested five CGST officials, two Superintendents and three Inspectors, posted in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur for allegedly accepting a bribe.
CBI registered a case on complaint against a Superintendent on the allegations of demanding bribe of Rs one crore for issuing release order of a factory.
It was further alleged that the factory premises were earlier raided and sealed in May this year by said Superintendents and other officials of CGST, Jabalpur, CBI said in a statement.
After negotiation, the alleged bribe was reduced to Rs 35 lakh. It has also been alleged that the Complainant handed over Rs 25 lakh to said Superintendent and requested to give some more time for the remaining amount of Rs 10 lakh.
Later, the accused reduced the bribe to Rs 7 lakh after further negotiation, CBI said.
CBI laid a trap and caught two Superintendents and three Inspectors while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh from the Complainant. Searches were conducted at seven locations including at residential and office premises of the accused at Jabalpur which led to recovery of cash of Rs 83,26,800, it said. (UNI)
