Cataract camp concludes at SDH Akhnoor

JAMMU, Nov 30: Organized by Viklang Chhatra Trust in collaboration with J&K Health Department, a 3-day long free Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) surgery camp for cataract patients concluded today at Sub District Hospital (SDH), Akhnoor.
The camp was organized at the directions of Health Minister Bali Bhagat and under the guidance of Director Health Services Jammu and Chief Medical Officer Jammu.
In the three-day long camp, 150 patients were examined and 25 selected for cataract surgery on first day. Out of which 12 patients were immediately implanted IOLs by Dr Rajeev Sharma and Dr Arti Sharma, Consultants Ophthalmology. They were assisted by assistants, Ashok Kumar and Sunil Choudhary. Today, on 3rd day of camp, free medicines and spectacles were distributed among the patients by “Viklang Chatra Trust”.
Pertinent to mention here that that free cataract surgeries are routinely going on at SDH Akhnoor twice a week i.e. Wednesday and Saturday and about 30 patients are operated every week. More than 1000 cataract surgeries have been done with free IOL implantation in a span of one year at SDH Akhnoor, under the supervision of Dr Vinod Kumar, Block Medical Officer Akhnoor and Block Programme Management Unit (NHM) Akhnoor.
