SRINAGAR, Oct 13: The casual labourers working in the Department of Tourism today demanded that their pending wages must be released apart from the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act.
The labourers said that the Department of Tourism was forcing them to come on roads to press for their demands. They also said that the education of their children has been affected as they have not been able to pay their fee.
“We are demanding the release of our pending wages from July 2014, including our wages component in Budget 2021-22, regularization of our services and the implementation of Minimum Wages act,” they said.
They said that the Director Tourism, Kashmir had recently said that all the casual labourers of the department have been terminated in 2014 which, they said, is far from the reality.
“In clarification, I can show proofs that we are still working in the department and unnecessarily our wages are being withheld and unfortunately, the orders of the High Court are not being implemented,” the representatives of the casual labourers said during a press conference here.
They urged the LG, Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter and take measures to solve the issues that they are facing for long now.
