Casual, Anganwadi workers hold protest demonstration

JAMMU, Aug 26: Casual workers of various Government Departments and  Anganwadi workers of ICDS Projects under Social Welfare Department held strong protest demonstration outside the office of Divisional Commissioner here today.
A large number of workers  from SWD and casual workers from various departments under the banner of J&K National Trade Union Front  (NTUF) assembled at Rail Head Complex, Railway Road here in the morning and  moved towards the office of  Divisional Commissioner, Pawan Kotwal.  NTUF leader, Mohd Gafoor Dar was leading them.
The workers were shouting slogans in support of their demands. They were also carrying banners and placards in their hands projecting their issues. Mr Dar and several trade union leaders addressed the gathering  and then submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner.
The main issues of the workers  projected during protest included framing of policy for the regularization of casual labours/ workers engaged after 1994 and release of pending wages of PHE, PDD, PWD, Forest, Soil Conservation and other daily rated/ casual workers, enhancement of honorarium in favour of ICDS workers and helpers to Rs 10,000 and Rs 6000 per month and stoppage of their harassment on various pretexts.
Prominent among those who addressed included Rajinder Kumar, Nazir Ahmed Moulvi, Swarna, Irshad Begum, Mehjabeen, Muneer Ahmed, Peeran Ditta and Vikramjit Singh.
