Caste based reservation

Sir,
This is in reference to the news item dated 14 January vide which the General Category People’s Forum has demanded to stop the caste based reservations in Government services. The forum has raised certain objections against the caste based reservations. According to the members of the forum, this reservation is weakening the roots of our strong nation, it leads to the human rights violations and it has spoiled the basis of democracy. But I think that these objections are not true and are far from the reality. Everybody knows that our nation has become much stronger after our constitution came into force which provided the reservation to certain downtrodden castes which were otherwise neglected and had least role to play in the development of the nation. The reservation has given them a chance to contribute in the development of the country.
As regards the human rights violations, it is well understood by everybody that due to the caste system prevailing in the society, these reserved castes have suffered a lot due to the inhuman behavior meted out to them for centuries together and due to the reservation their human rights have been restored and protected to some extent. Further, the reservation has not spoiled the democracy as in a democracy the weaker sections of the society have also a right of development which could not have been possible without reservation for these castes keeping in view  their backwardness  of centuries. The article 46 of the constitution also states that the Government should work for the economic and educational upliftment of scheduled castes , scheduled tribes and other weaker sections of the society to restore them justice, equality and dignity. Further as per statement of the forum, Dr. Ambedkar had kept the reservation for tenure of ten years.
This is also not correct. He had only suggested that it should be reviewed after ten years and not for stoppage of it. It is also described as a historic blunder but in fact it is a remedial measure to correct the historic blunder committed by the society in denying the human rights to this section for such a long time. This reservation has also been described as discrimination to other castes.
If we take the case of our state, the strength of caste based reserved employees is less than 5%. How can it be treated as discrimination with other castes?. The same is the case with the Central Government employees. If we take the private sector also in consideration where there is no reservation this figure still comes low. I think we must tolerate this very low percentage in the service sector and avoid questioning this socio-economic system.
Yours etc….
