CASO resumes in Pulwama, SOG jawan killed, two soldiers injured so far

SRINAGAR: Security forces resumed Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) with the first light o Wednesday morning in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said.
So far, a jawan of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and two soldiers have been injured critically in the encounter which ensued when security forces launched CASO at a village in Khrew in Pulwama at 1200 hrs. Condition of a soldier admitted to 92 Base hospital is stated to be critical.
Earlier, it was reported two militants and two security force personnel were killed and a jawan injured in the encounter. However, so far no body of any militant has been recovered.
Sources said the CASO was stopped late last night due to darkness. However, additional security forces had been deployed despite sub zero temperature to prevent militants to escape, they said.
Security forces used flash lights and drones to keep a close watch in the area, they said.
With the first light this morning security forces resumed search operation in the area, including nearby forest, they said adding so far no fresh contact was established with the militants.
The CASO was launched by Rashtriya Rifles (RR), SOG and CRPF following a tip off about the presence of militants. Residents of the area were taken to safer places after encounter ensued between militants and security forces.
The operation was still going on when the reports came in.
