CASO resumes by security forces in woods of Kupwara

SRINAGAR : With the first light on Sunday morning, security forces resumed Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the woods in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir, where a brief exchange of fire with militants took place on Saturday afternoon.
So far one AK rifle and a bag were recovered in the area immediately after firing stopped.
A police spokesman said troops of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint CASO at Dana Behak Warnow in Lolab woods on Saturday in Kupwara following a tip-off about the presence of militants.
However, when the security forces sealing the forest woods, militants hiding there opened fire, he said adding a brief exchange of fire took place.
Official sources said after an initial exchange of fire between hiding militants and security forces for about half an hour, there was no firing. Later, during the search of the area one AK rifle a bag was recovered. However, the militants had fled from the area.

They said CASO was extended to other areas and security forces from different directions have joined the operation. However, late in the night search operation was stopped due to darkness though the entire area remained under tight surveillance, they said.
This morning with the first light security forces resumed CASO, they said adding so far no contact was established with the militants.
