CASH rejects JU proposal

JAMMU, Sept 20: The Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) in Jammu University is learnt to have rejected the proposal for relaxation in the life term ban from holding any administration position by faculty member Shubhnandan Jamwal, who is accused of sexual harassment of a female student.
In the emergency meeting, which was held yesterday, the CASH convener Prof Meena Sharma and other members stoutly rejected the University proposal for converting the life term ban into period specific (five years only) and made it clear that no dilution in the punishment was acceptable.
Ironically, sources said, the proposal for relaxation in the punishment to Subhnandan Jamwal was forwarded on the recommendations of three male members of the CASH.
In the proposal, forwarded through Teaching Wing of the University, CASH was requested to reconsider its earlier recommendation of life term ban on the accused faculty member. The proposal said that the ban should be limited to five years and the accused may be transferred to Kishtwar Campus as punishments, sources said.
However, CASH rejected the proposal and maintained that no relaxation was acceptable to an accused of such a heinous crime, sources added.
Pertinent to mention that Kishtwar Campus of JU has temporary faculty and the accused, who is a permanent Assistant Professor, was understood to become de facto incharge of the campus after the Rector.
