NEW DELHI : Newly installed Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is likely to visit national capital today. During his stay, he is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and discuss matters related to the developments of the state, party sources said.
The Congress party stormed back to power in the agrarian state of Punjab after 10 years continuous rule of Shiramani Akali Dal-BJP combine.
The new Chief Minister is also expected to make a courtesy call to the President Pranab Mukherjee. Capt. Amarinder will also meet and interact with senior Congress leaders, the sources said. In the just concluded Assembly polls, the Congress emerged victorious with 77 seats while between Akali Dal and BJP, they could just manage 18 seats.
The Aam Aadmi Party managed to win 20 seats. For the new government, sources said, revival of agriculture and tackling receding water table pose serious challenges. Also in political discourse has been unemployment and drug menace. (AGENCIES)
