Cannabis, poppy straw along with Rs 1.59 lakh cash seized, 5 held

UDHAMPUR, June 21: Foiling two attempts of smuggling narcotics and psychotropic substances, Police party of Police Station Udhampur today apprehended five drug peddlers and seized 30 kg poppy straw alongwith cash of Rs 1.59 lakh besides 1.35 kg cannabis.
The consignment of poppy straw was being smuggled in a truck, bearing registration number JK16-0798, which was coming from Kashmir. A Police team, by Insp Chaman Gorka (SHO Udhampur) under the supervision of Anwaar-ul-Haq (Addl SP Udhampur) and Sahil Mahajan (DySP Hqrs Udhampur) intercepted the truck at Jakhani naka Point, NHW.
During search, 30 kg of poppy straw like substance was recovered from the truck. Police arrested the truck driver and associate, who were identified as Rayaz Ahmed Malik son of Gulam Mohi Din of village Hangar Yaripora, Kulgam and Muddassir Ahmed son of Mohd Rafiq Bhat of Laram Gangipora Anantnaag Srinagar.
On disclosure of the accused persons, police party arrested one more person namely Ajay Sharma alias Baju son of Krishan Lal of Manthal, Tikri Udhampur, to whom the consignment was to be delivered. A cash of Rs 159,500/- was recovered and seized from his possession. The involved vehicle (truck) used for smuggling has also been seized.
A case FIR number 224/2021, under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered in this connection at PS Udhampur and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, in another success, at the same place Naka point Jakhani, Police stopped one vehicle Mahindra Pickup bearing registration number. JK02CC-7946 and recovered 1.35 Kg of cannabis from the possession of two accused persons namely Ajay Singh son of Kiker Singh and Bhushan Kumar son of Sham All, both residents of Samole, Udhampur.
Both the accused were arrested on the spot and recovered cannabis along with the vehicle was seized. In this connection, a case FIR number 222/2021 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur.
