NEW DELHI, Dec 11: A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its nod today to the revision and extension of the PM’s Development Package (PMDP) for the Horticulture in the recently created Union Territories of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
This is under the mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture.
The CCEA has given its approval to extend the timeline for implementation of PMDP approved in 2016 beyond 31st March 2019 by three years — up to March 31 in 2022, an official release said here.
This will also have a provision of further extension of time by a maximum period of 12 months, if required, with approval of Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Approval of revision / re-appropriation of earlier approved components of PMDP within the approved outlay of Rs 500 crore between UTs of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh has been given with the provision of further revision if there is any requirement for the same.
The CCEA has also approved revalidation of unspent amount of Rs. 59.07 crore that was left with the State of Jammu & Kashmir including Ladakh while it was undivided.
The implementation of PMDP in the newly made UTs is likely to generate approximately 44 lakh mandays of employment and will also result in generating employment in the sectors such as grading/packing units, cold storages, transportation sector and others.
It was due to time consuming process for import of planting material and quarantine issues, the implementation of PMDP was delayed and the State of J&K requested for extension of time-line for implementation and also revision/ re-appropriation in the components of the approved Action Plan.
It was also because of the bifurcation of J & K into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh that required revision of physical & financial targets under PMDP separately between the UTs of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. (UNI)
