Cabinet may give nod to Kiru project today

JAMMU, Mar 6: The Union Cabinet is likely to give its approval to 600 MW Kiru hydro-electric power project which will be constructed over river Chenab in Kishtwar district of Jammu region, on Thursday.
Tomorrow’s Cabinet meeting will be last of present Narendra Modi-led NDA Government as the Election Commission is likely to announce schedule of general elections any time this week, leading to imposition of Model Code of Conduct.
Sources said the Union Cabinet was expected to approve Kiru project in tomorrow’s meeting.
The project will be constructed at a cost of Rs 3233 crore within a period of five years beginning from investment sanction by the Government of India.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Dr Jitendra Singh, in whose Lok Sabha constituency of Udhampur-Doda, Kiru projects falls has been pressing hard for immediate start of work on the project.
