NEW DELHI : The Union Cabinet today approved an ordinance deferring implementation of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-2016 for admission to medical courses across India for a year.
The Union Cabinet has decided to bring an ordinance to side-step the Supreme Court’s order making NEET mandatory for those sitting for admission to medical courses.
Confirming this, Human Resource Development ministry officials said the move would enable state government and institutions to conduct their own admission test. Several state governments had requested for a year’s time to implement NEET, which has been approved by the Supreme Court.
