KATHUA, Feb 8: It can be as a dream come true for the border residents of Samba -Kathua after a wait of over 25 long years that the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) will resume the bus service on Old Samba Kathua (OSK) road tomorrow.
The bus service will be inaugurated by DDC member, Hiranagar, Abhinandan Sharma who recently took up the issue with Managing Director SRTC, Angrez Singh and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard.
The MD SRTC agreed to resume the bus service in the area in view of the problems being faced by the border people after the closure of the bus service over 25 years back on the OSK road which is also an alternative road to Jammu-Pathankot National Highway.
Abhinandan Sharma told Excelsior that the OSK was the main road during Maharaja’s rule. Later it was abandoned over 25 years back due to its dilapidated condition. However, now a new Highway has been constructed and the road is through for traffic but the service buses were not plied on this road till date which has put the people of border belt to great hardships as they have to travel a 10 km distance up to National Highway to board a bus for Samba or Kathua.
He said after he presented a memorandum to MD SRTC few days back who agreed to start the SRTC bus service on this road and the same will be inaugurated by DDC member tomorrow.
The starting of bus service will benefit all the people of the area and save their valuable time and money.
Route for the bus service starts from Nagri – Kot Punnu – Haria Chak – Sanji More – Chakra – Sherpur Maya – Jammu. Government and private employees, students who commute daily to Jammu and patients going for treatment will get benefitted from this bus service.
