SAMBA, Aug 21: A bus carrying pilgrims to the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi skidded off the Jammu-Pathankot Highway at Jatwal in Samba district and fell into a gorge on Thursday, leaving one person dead and 39 others injured, officials said.

The accident took place at Jatwal, when the bus carrying pilgrims to Katra from Uttar Pradesh, suffered a tyre burst and skidded off the Highway near a small bridge, they said.
The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Iqbal Singh of Amroha, they added.
A rescue operation was launched and the injured were shifted to the hospital in Samba. Fourteen of them were later admitted to AIIMS Vijaypur, officials said.
A handout issued by AIIMS Vijaypur said that four patients with major injuries have been admitted under Orthopedics, Neurosurgery and Emergency Department for specialized care while 10 patients with stable injuries are under observation in the Trauma and Emergency Department for monitoring.
The injured who have been admitted for treatment in AIIMS Vijaypur included Gajraj, Khoop Chand, Mabasy and Prem Raj all from Garh Ganga Meerut UP. Those who are under observation in AIIMS Vijaypur included Poonam, Bhagvan, Pushpinder, Gajander Singh, Bajinder, Shivam, Omwati, Rishpal, four year old, Deepesh and six year old Prashant from Garh Ganga Meerut UP.
