SURANKOT, Mar 9: Mystery shrouded death of an Army Jawan, whose bullet-riddled body was found under suspicious circumstances in his barrack at Draba belt of Surankot, here this morning.
The deceased was identified as Sepoy Balraj Singh of Amritsar, Punjab (No. 19004115 W), posted in Draba, 16- RR. His body was found in a pool of blood with eight bullet wounds on chest, Police said.
It is third instance of a jawan dying with bullet injuries in the past 13 days. As per Police earlier two were cases of suicide and this case, inquest proceedings have been initiated under Section 174 of RPC.
Even as this case also appears to be an incident of suicide and Police has seized service rifle of the deceased, which was lying near his body, eight bullet wounds on the chest were making the case a little bit mysterious, sources said.
On March 5, Army Jawan Sepoy Roshan Singh had committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon while he was on duty in the Krishnagati, LoC belt, in this district.
On February 25, BSF Constable Pramodh Kumar, who was guarding a forward post along the LoC in the district, had committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle.
Meanwhile, the Army has issued a statement,   saying the 24-year-old jawan was posted in Daraba in the Poonch Sector and was found dead at his residence  in the early hours.
“An inquiry into the matter has been instituted by the Army. The  Police authorities have also been informed and have commenced investigation  in the case,” a defence spokesperson said.
The deceased is survived by his wife and a daughter.
