MENDHAR, Feb 17: The building of Govt Primary School in Balakote Zone of Mendhar Sub Division of Poonch district is lying in shambles and the concerned School Education authorities have miserably failed to come to the rescue of the hapless children of this school, situated in remotest area of the district.
Official sources said that Govt Primary School, Suiyan in Balakot Zone of district Poonch, was constructed during 2012. But surprisingly, within 9 years, this building has turned into shambles. Its’ tin roof has been badly damaged and several windows are missing. The villagers of the area brought the matter to the notice of district Education authorities and local administration, but action in this regard was still awaited. The locals said that this area is closer to the Line of Control and Pakistani troops regularly target the area with mortar shelling. The students and staff constantly remain under threat of shelling.
This school building was established in 1980, after that it started working again in 2012. The walls of the building were raised later but these are not built up till date. The villagers have asked the District Development Commissioner, Poonch to investigate what was the reason behind which the construction work was left incomplete.
Locals of the area, Mohammd Saleem and Mushtaq Ahmed said that during wind storm few years ago, the tin roof top of the school was badly damaged. The tin sheets were uprooted and went missing. During winters and rainy days it becomes horrible for the children to carry on their studies. They appealed the Lt Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to intervene into the matter.
