JAMMU, May 1: Lord Buddha Jayanti was celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervor at Ambedkar Nagar, Channi Kamala, Jammu.
The function was organized by Mahatma Gautam Buddha Sewa Samiti, Channi Kamala. Former Minister and senior Congress leader, Raman Bhalla was the chief guest on the occasion while Gurdeep Singh Sasan, NC vice-president, Jammu province, was the special guest.
The programme started with garlanding of photograph of Lord Buddha by the guests including chief guest, Raman Bhalla, who while speaking on the occasion, talked about Lord Buddha’s contribution to the entire humanity. He advised the people to follow the teachings of the Lord Buddha and work for eradication of social evils from the society.
In his address, Gurdeep Singh Sasan, said that if there are still discriminations being meted out to some sections of the society in the name of caste, then we cannot be called the followers of Lord Buddha. He said we need to be 21st century’s Buddhists and practices like the caste system has no place in Buddhism.
Chairman of the Samiti, Chamel Singh, secretary, LR Kaith and advisors, Daya Ram Kaith and Gursimran Kaith, also spoke on the occasion. They appealed the people to unitedly fight against social evils prevalent in the society.
A skit was presented on the occasion by some children on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’. A social play was also presented by Inqalabi Nat Manch, Jammu.
