JAMMU, July 16: The activist of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) staged a brief protest here today and projected their demands.
Led by J&K UT unit president of the BSP, SR Majotra, the senior leaders of the party and other activists assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club today and staged brief protest. They were shouting slogans in support of their demands.
Later, in the shape of a delegation, they moved to the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu at Rail Head Complex and submitted a memorandum to him, for the Chairman of Delimitation Commission, Chief Election Commissioner, New Delhi and Chief Secretary of J&K UT.
While appreciating the constitution of Delimitation Commission for J&K under Supreme Court Judge Justice R P Desai, the BSP J&K Unit hoped that Commission shall consider the view point/ suggestions from all political and social groups. They said in any process of bifurcation of an area, population addition and prevalent conditions of the section of society be considered. They demanded that one Lok Sabha seat and one seat in Rajya Sabha be reserved for SCs in J&K UT.
They said Kathua constituency is reserved for over 40 years and now it should be made open. It has been learnt that BJP wants to keep this seat reserved again as they have stiff competition from the reserved catagories here. They demanded that Basohli and Billawar seats be keep reserved.
