BSNL taking various measures to provide quality services: CGM

JAMMU, July 19: To improve the network performance and speed as well as to provide quality service to its customers in Jammu and Kashmir, State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL)  today said various measures have been either taken or in the pipeline in this regard.
This was stated by Chief General Manager Telecom,  Jammu Circle BSNL, H K Verma while talking to reporters here today. He said the replacement of new technology switch with next generation network class IMS system would facilitate customers with world class facilities such as prepaid calling, video calls, limited fixed mobile telephony and multi-media video calling.
“The BSNL is expanding and upgrading optical fibre network by adding more than 2000 KM Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) routes in the State,” Verma said.

He said BSNL has gone for upgradation of back haul band width between capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu and beyond (Jammu-Delhi), while work on upgradation and installation of more than 800 new or existing Base Transceiver Station (BTS) sites is also in progress.
BSNL is planning to launch about 10000 fibre to home connection, he said adding induction of more than 300 State of art transmission equipments like converged packet access network and managed packet network system would facilitate the Gigabyte Ethernet connectivity to all places and modes.
Unveiling the new services planned by BSNL this month, he said BSNL is ready with its internet telephony service with brand name “wings” which would be made available with effect from July 25 across the country.
“To use the service a customer needs to install an app on any of the smart devices having internet of WiFi connection to make and receive calls from anywhere in India and abroad. Customer has to activate the services (one time in life) at Rs 1099,” he said.
He said it would be followed by “prepaid land line service” by the end of this month, on State of the art technology using next generation network platform with enhanced features.
The salient features of the service include that freedom for the customer in terms of pay as per use, no installation charges, no registration and rental charges and customer can purchase his own instrument or BSNL will provide CLIP instrument at a cost of Rs 625 (one time charges), he said.
He said there are attractive tariff plans available for prepaid landline service customer with promotional offers on the use of internet.
BSNL is also rolling out one plus one scheme for Land Line customers which would be rent free and a discount of 50 per cent on the call charges on the additional landline, Verma said.
