SRINAGAR, Apr 21: The employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have gone on a two day strike to urge the Central Government to take immediate steps for its financial and operational revival.
The employees of BSNL J&K circle, in a statement issued here said that they have decided to hold two day strike as per the directives of BSNL at national level for revival of the only public sector telecom company which is on the verge of financial sickness.
The statement said that before 2006, BSNL was number one telecom company with annual revenue of Rs 40, 000 crores and profit of Rs 8000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore. “However after Government converted the telecom company into a corporation to ensure its financial viability, it was hit by many conspiracies hatched by other corporate sectors to make BSNL financially sick so that it is pushed to privatization”, the statement said.
The employees accused the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) of favoring private service providers at the cost of BSNL by withdrawing its assured interconnectivity charges and refund of USO charges for rural telephony.
The employees appealed the Government of India to immediately withdraw the retrograde steps and allow BSNL to start 4 G services.
