BSNL employees observe hunger strike

JAMMU, Feb 24: All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB), the umbrella organization of all the employees’ unions and associations of the state-run telecom company BSNL, organized a nation-wide hunger strike today.
The lunch-hour demonstration and hunger strike was conducted across all state and district headquarters of the country including Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Unions and Associations are seeking immediate payment of salary for the month of January 2020 as well as timely payment of salary every month, clearance of the dues already deducted from the salaries of employees and immediate launching of 4G services by BSNL.
Further, it is also protesting against the “abnormal delay” in issuing sovereign bonds for Rs 15,000 crore as approved by the Union Cabinet in BSNL’s revival package. Additionally, the AUAB has sought the immediate payment of wage arrears to contract workers and ending of whimsical transfer of employees on the pretext of restructuring following the success of the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).
BSNL is yet to pay salaries for the month of January-2020. Moreover, unions and associations of BSNL want the company to ready its network and infrastructure to launch 4G services, with the Government spectrum allocation expected by April 1, 2020.
