BSF to set up marine battalion HQ in Kutch

GANDHINAGAR : Considering the history of frequent skirmishes with Pakistan over fishing, intrusion and trespassing, Border Security Force has decided to set up its marine battalion headquarters in the border district of Kutch. Gujarat government has decided to allot 3,14,000 sq mtr of land near Bhuj, the district town of Kutch, at a subsidized rate of Rs 660 per sq mtr to BSF for setting up its marine battalion headquarters. The total cost of the land to BSF would come to Rs 20.72 crore. The land for the proposed headquarters is located in Shedata village of Bhuj taluka. The decision to set up the marine battalion of BSF was taken in 2012 but the land for it could not be allocated due to litigation by some villagers on the ground that a village road was passing through the land. However, following court order now the land, excluding the road, would be handed over to BSF. The state government had allotted land to the Indian Air Force near the state capital for setting up its South Command headquarters at Rs 2,000 per sq mtr, nearly three times the rate at which land is being given to BSF. The decision to give land to BSF was taken at the state cabinet meeting yesterday. (UNI)
