JAMMU, Nov 3: The BSF as well as J&K police today bid adieu to Constable Tapan Mondal who was killed yesterday when Pakistani Rangers fired at a patrol party along the International Border in Samba district.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held to honour the martyr belonging to 173 Battalion of BSF, who laid down his life while guarding the nation’s frontiers along the IB in Samba sector. The ceremonial military send-off was held in Martyr Memorial at the Border Security Force headquarter, Paloura, Jammu, this afternoon.
The ceremony was attended by top security officials, including Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid and Inspector General, BSF, Ram Awatar, besides other ranks of BSF and J&K police, who paid homage to the martyr. Floral wreaths were laid on the coffin carrying the body of the slain Jawan.
The mortal remains of 25-year-old Mondal will be flown to his native Satui village in Murshidabad district of West Bengal via Delhi. He is survived by his mother Sumitra Mondal.
Pakistani Rangers fired at a patrol party along the IB in Samba district yesterday, drawing heavy retaliation from the Indian force in which three posts were damaged and two rangers injured.
