JAMMU: Alert BSF troops on Saturday foiled an infiltration attempt from across the border in Arnia Sector here.
”BSF on Saturday again foiled a nefarious design of Pakistan to infiltrate a group of terrorists through a tunnel along international border from Arnia sector to cause havoc in festival season,” official sources here said.
They said that more details are awaited. Meanwhile, reliable sources said that a digging of few feet was found by the border guards close to the fence in Arnia but facts are yet to be ascertained.
BSF and Pakistan yesterday held Sector Commander level flag meeting at Suchetgarh in RS Pura wherein sniping, ceasefire violations and other border issues were discussed.
After the meeting, both sides committed to maintain peace on the International Border, which was prevailing for the past nearly about a week now after heavy mortar shelling and firing for over one week on the International Border of Jammu and Samba districts.
On February 15, 2017, the Border Security Force detected a cross-border tunnel on the International Border (IB) in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district, foiling a possible infiltration bid.
It was second tunnel detected in the area in three months, and the fifth in the region since 2012. On February 13, 2017, a 20 metre long cross-border tunnel with a diameter of 2.5 ft into 2.5 ft was uncovered in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district.
On November 29, 2016, a tunnel detected in the same Ramgarh area through which three militants infiltrated and they were eliminated on the same day.
On March 1, 2016, a 30-metre trans-border tunnel found in the RS Pura sector of Jammu district. It had a diameter of nearly 3 feet .
On August 23, 2014, a trans-border tunnel uncovered in the Pallanwala sector of Jammu district. It caved in due to rains after running 50 m inside the Indian territory.
