BSF Dy Comdt, driver washed away

NOWSHERA, July 26: A Deputy Commandant of  Border Security Force (BSF) and his driver are feared killed after their vehicle (Gypsy) got trapped in flood water of a ‘nallah’ in Seri area and washed away near the LoC in Sunderbani sub-sector of district Rajouri early today.
According to SSP Rajouri, Mubassir Latifi  the incident took place at around 3.30 am when the BSF officer Tarun Gupta from 93 Battalion located in Sunderbani area was returning from Kalal side to Sunderbani camp after visiting certain forward border posts. It was raining heavily. A nallah near Seri was swollen due to flash flood. The driver, Constable Udhay Kumar  stopped vehicle for some time but later decided to cross the nallah.  As the vehicle reached in the middle, it was washed away.
A villager, Pt Madan Lal who was watching this from his home at some distance, later informed the police and nearby Army camp about the incident. Later, the BSF men from 93 Battalion also reached. They found Gypsy trapped in the rocks about 400 meters down-stream but the bodies could not be traced even after extensive search up to last point at Beri Pattan Nallah at the LoC.
However, the shoes of both and T shirt of driver have been recovered around 4 kms down  the stream.
A senior BSF officer at Jammu frontier headquarters said that Pakistani authorities have been informed about the missing of the officer and his driver. He said Seri nallah joins another nallah near Beri Pattan and then passes over to PoK (Bhimber tehsil). He said massive search operation was jointly launched by BSF, Army and police. The locals also assisted but the bodies could not be traced till this evening. He said the Gypsy was extensively damaged as it might have taken many rolls while getting washed away besides getting hit against big stones and boulders.
