BRO pays Rs 16.94 cr as land compensation

REASI, Nov 20: Director General, Border Roads Organization has paid Rs 16.94 crore out of Rs 35 crore as land compensation, which was pending since many years. The amount has been forwarded to Deputy Commissioner.
After criminal proceedings under Section 133 CrPC initiated by District Magistrate Reasi last month, the Director General in an undertaking submitted to the Chief Secretary had committed payment of Rs 35 crore.
“This amount is being further placed by the Deputy Commissioner at the disposal of Collector Land Acquisition for BRO Rajinder Singh Tara for disbursal in respect of land owner of Reasi-Pouni stretch”, an official spokesman said, adding “the BRO has intimated that remaining amount will be released shortly”.
This will provide a great relief to thousands of families awaiting compensation for land and houses during the past several years.
The BRO officials have informed the district administration that blacktopping of Katra-Reasi road will be taken up shortly as per the undertaking already given by DG BRO.
