Bring goods manufactured in J&K under ambit of Cross LoC Trade: BBIA

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 12: Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) held a meeting under the chairmanship of its President Lalit Mahajan and discussed the current scenario of cross-LoC trade.
While speaking, Lalit Mahajan said that as per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) between Government of India and Pakistan, the items manufactured or produced in both part of Jammu and Kashmir are eligible for trade with the identification of 21 Items comprising primary commodities but later on the majority of items were traded which were not manufactured or produced in our State due to which the industrial sector is neglected for cross LoC trade till date, he added.
Mahajan further stated that it is a matter of great concern that no benefit was given to the industrial sector of J&K in cross LoC trade in spite of an opportunity given but the trade was diverted for most of the items which were neither manufactured nor produced in our State.
He added that NGOs of national and international level paid little attention for the industrial sector in the meetings held at national or International level which shows the casual attitude of these Organizations towards the industrial sector of our State.
The members of the BBIA present in the meeting requested Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu and Industries and Commerce Minister Chander Parkash to take up the matter with the Government of India that for achieving dual goals of economic development and peace building along with new market avenues, all goods manufactured in J&K should be brought under the ambit of cross LoC trade. They also requested them to open the routes on LoC, which are close to border e.g. Pallanwala-Chhambh, Nowshehra-Mirpur, opening of Suchetgarh route in Jammu district for international trade of goods with other part of Pakistan on the pattern of Wagah Border so as to explore new market for local industry and resolve other issues like telecommunication facility, issue of trade permits and financial transactions with banking facilities.
The meeting was attended by Rahul Bansal, senior vice president, Varun Singla, vice president, Ajay Langer, general secretary, PS Jaggi, secretary, Viraaj Malhotra, treasurer and other members of the association.
