Bring all religious properties under Shrine Bill: KHMC

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, June 30: The Executive Committee of the Kashmiri Hindu Minority Conference (KHMC) in a meeting held here today under the presidentship of Prof G K Muju has expressed its satisfaction that the J&K Government is quite serious to get the long awaited Bill to provide for the better management, protection, administration and governance of Kashmiri Hindus temples, shrines and religious places  in the State and the matters concerned therewith  and incidental thereto with the introduction of a Bill in the State Assembly in this regard  in the last session.
The KHMC while expressing its gratitude to the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mir Saifullah, Chairman Select Committee, expressed the hope that he without any further delay will call a meeting of the Committee at Srinagar and discussed the mater.
The K H M C has reiterated some of its suggestions hereunder and demand that all temples, shrines, trusts asthapans, cremation grounds and other religious places commonly visited/used by the community and irrespective of their present status of management should be covered under the proposed Act. There should be no discrimination or selective process and all these religious places should be brought under the Act.
It demanded that the Government must ensure that all movable and immovable properties and assets , including bank accounts etc. belonging to any temple, shrine, trust etc  must be brought under the purviews of the Act whose Constitution and functioning must be just like that of the Gurudwara Prabhandahk Committee Act or Muslim Auquaf Trust ,
It said since the immovable properties and other fixed assets of these temples, shrines etc are spread almost in the entire State and there have been frequent complaints of encroachments and illegal sales of such properties by unscrupulous elements, the K H M C demands to have an updated inventory of all such properties so that the same can be brought under the purview of the proposed Act and safeguarded from any further mischief.
