SRINAGAR, July 29: The bridge connecting dozens of villages in Pashwari area of Kupwara border district has once again been damaged due to floods causing various problems to the people.
Locals of the area said that the Government had started construction of a bridge more than ten years ago; however, the work was stopped.
The residents said that they have built the bridge after collecting the donations, but it has collapsed again due to floods.
“The Government left the construction work on the bridge midway, then we collected donations and built a bridge; it collapsed again due to the floods,” the locals said.
Left with no option, the people are once again trying to construct a makeshift bridge, but the water level is not coming down.
People said that they are facing various problems due to the collapse of the bridge.
They said if the Government had built a concrete bridge, the minor floods would not have caused the bridge to collapse.
“It is because of the Government’s inattention that we are forced to go door-to-door and collect donations,” they said.
