JAMMU, Feb 5: Shikast an Urdu serial of 13 episodes based on famous writer Krishan Chander’s novel Shikast will be telecast by DD Urdu from tomorrow.
This was disclosed by the Producer and director of serial Ravi Braroo and Vinay Raina father of the hero of the serial Rahul Sharma at a press conference here this afternoon.
Braroo a tele serial producer and director said that the serial will be approximately of half an hour duration and it will be telecast on DD Urdu at 8 pm and then repeated on 11 pm. The screen play of the serial has also been written by Braroo himself.
Krishan Chander who was born at Lahore, now in Pakistan got his early education in Jammu and spent a portion of his life in Poonch district where his father was posted, Braroo said, adding Krishan Chander had a lot of attraction for the people of the region and its scenery and his novels mostly reflect the same.
Braroo said Krishan Chander was highly attracted by natural and scenic beauty of Poonch where he spent his childhood and the backdrop of his novel Shikast is the same place.
He said Shikast is the masterpiece of Krishan Chander where he exhibited mastery on novel writing. This is the reason that the novel is considered a monumental work of Krishan Chander who continued relentlessly to critique the abuse of power, poverty and the suffering of wretched earth but above all he never stopped protesting against casteism, fanaticism, communal violence and terror.
Braroo said in fact Krishan Chander was humanist and a cosmopolitan wielding a magic in usage of word and his friends and foes appreciated his wiring alike.
Besides Rahul Sharma, Neha Bhardwaj, Vinay Raina, Rani Bhan, Shammi Malhotra, Janak Khajuria, Madan Rangila, Pankaj Sharma, Laxmi Tagotra, Deepak Virdi, Subash Jamwal, Lalita Tapsvi, Tapeshwar Dutta and Ravi Braroo. Sandeep Dhar and Shiban Bhat were the associate directors.
