JAMMU, Mar 1: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH), Katra, added another milestone to its illustrious list of achievements by performing Endovascular Coiling, a minimal invasive intervention and saving a 68 year old patient.
The patient was treated for ruptured cerebral aneurysm. The patient, a known case of hypertension, was presented at the hospital with sudden onset of severe headache. The doctors immediately did a detailed examination. The investigation revealed that she had suffered from a brain hemorrhage due to rupturing of the right aneurysm (Balloon) in one of the major artery in the brain. The blood was leaking and affecting the cells requiring immediate treatment. Owing to her age and complexity the condition, doctors advised endovascular coiling.
Elaborating about the intervention, Dr Tariq Matin, Neuro Interventionist said, “Unlike the conventional surgical methods in this procedure the brain is not exposed. Instead, the ruptured brain vessel is accessed through a small nick in the groin vessel and the repair material is taken till the ruptured brain vessel and inserted under the fluoroscopy guidance in the Cath Lab.”
While the endoscopic coiling procedure was carried out successfully by Dr Tariq Matin, the patient care and management was done under the Neurosurgery unit of the Hospital. The patient has been discharged and is doing well.
Brig (Dr) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative officer, SMVD Narayana Hospital, said “In surgical treatment the patients are usually required to stay in the hospital for around 4 to 6 days, whereas in case of coiling, patient can go home within 1 or 2 days after the procedure. Further, as it is minimal invasive, loss of blood is minimal making it a boon for senior patients.”
Equipped with experts and the latest equipments, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH), Katra is fast becoming one of the leading hospitals in the region that has the capability to address a multitude of health conditions.
