Brahman Sabha urges PM to lift embargo on delimitation

JAMMU, June 9: Urging the Prime Minister to revoke the so called resolution passed by previous regimes, which prohibits the process for delimitation of Assembly constituencies in J&K State till 2026, Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha (DBPS) today demanded immediate constituting Delimitation Commission headed by a retired Judge of the Supreme Court to demarcate the Assembly segments considering the population and geographical areas.
“Considering the population, area, voter strength constituency-wise; Jammu and Ladakh regions were discriminated by delimitation resolution of 2002, which must be revoked immediately,” Ved Parkash Sharma, president of DBPS, said while talking to media persons, here today.
Describing Home Minister Amit Shah as a great Chanayaka of Indian politics, he said that people of Jammu and Ladakh were looking for an end to discrimination against their regions by some bold initiatives like delimitation of Assembly constituencies by the present NDA Government at the Centre.
Senior Advocate P C Sharma, who was also present in the press conference, disclosed that with the Presidential proclamation in 2018, issued by the President of India, all legislative power of the State Legislature are presently vested with Parliament legally, that will ensure creating delimitation commission which can give its report in time bound manner to be accepted by President to act upon it to undo historical blunders done by the previous regimes.
The Sabha also stressed the need to revert the State Assembly term to 5 years like other States of Indian Union.
Prominent social activist B S Jamwal (retired Deputy Commissioner) voiced for immediately setting up of review committee followed by Delimitation Commission to address the imbalance of population, voter strength in each constituencies of the State.
He further demanded that the upcoming State Assembly election should be conducted only after the process of delimitation in State is completed in one go and President Rule should be continue for the betterment speedy development of the State.
Sabha vice-president Virendar Mohan Magotra, Satyanand Sharma, Subash Shastri, Jagan Nath Sharma, Chander Mohan Sharma (Member Human Right Commission), Shiv Ram Sharma, Romesh Sharma, N C Sharma, M L Sharma and others were also present in the press conference.
