Mortal remains of Hawaldar Tarun consigned to flames with military honour

KATHUA, June 9:Mortal remains of Hawaldar Taran Kumar who attained martyrdom in Manasbal area of Ganderbal district yesterday were consigned to flames at his native village in Khorat near here today with full military honours.
Earlier his body was flown from Srinagar to Technical Airport Udhampur where from it was brought to Khorat in an army vehicle.
The pall of gloom had descended the village Khorat since yesterday evening after the news that Tarun Kumar has attained martyrdom in Kashmir reached there. The entire village was in shock and they rushed to the residence of Kumar to share the grief of the family.

As the body reached the village this afternoon all the family members and relatives including wife and two children of martyr were seen wailing and sobbing. Later the body of Hawaldar was taken in a big procession towards the cremation ground in the village for performance of last rites. Thousands of mourners joined the funeral procession. They included a sizable number of youth who enroute raised slogans Shaeed TarunAmar Rahay. Even some youth raised anti terrorism and anti Pakistan slogans. They were also carrying Tri Colour in their hands.
The wreaths were laid on the body by Army and civil officers before the pyre was lit by his kin and he was given gun salute by the army jawans.
Elder brother of Tarun Kumar, Parveen Kumar who was in grave shock said his brother was a brave army soldier. He was an inspiration for his children among whom he imbibed the spirit of bravery and nationalism. “Whenever he visited the village I have often seen him asking his children to be brave and daring so that entire nation feels proud of them”, he added.
The funeral was attended by senior military officers, DC Kathua, Vikas Kundal, SSP, Kathua, Shridhar Patil.
After sustaining injuries at Manasbal yesterday Tarun Kumar was immediately taken to a health care facility from where he was referred to Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar. However, army said Kumar succumbed to his injured at the hospital.
