Boy drowns in Bai river

SAMBA, June 16: A boy drowned while taking a bath in Bai river in Ghagwal tehsil of Samba district today. He has been identified as Vikram Kumar, son of Dharam Paul, resident of Kootah, Hiranagar district, Kathua.
The boy had gone to take a bath in the river with his friends and suddenly he drowned in a deep pit made by the mining mafia. His friends were unable to save him seeing him drowning they raised an alarm and people rushed to the spot. They pulled him out of the pit and took him to Ghagwal Hospital where he was declared dead by the doctor.
The body has been brought to Samba District Hospital for postmortem. The police has registered a case in this regard and started investigation.
The local people protested against the mining mafia. They said that the mining people have dug out many deep pits in the river, due to which this accident took place and a boy drowned.
